1 Dec 2023 is 35th year of commemoration of World AIDS Day to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, life impacting scenario.

HIV means Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It attacks the immune system. Owing to this, body loses the power to fight against infections.

AIDS - Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. It is the most advanced stage of HIV infection. At this stage, HIV has badly damaged immune system.

To create awareness about this life-threatening scene, it was on 1 Dec 1988, World AIDS Day was firstly celebrated.

People do wear Red Ribbons on this day to honour those living / fighting with HIV / AIDS. 1st Day of every December month.

As awareness, we must know that HIV/AIDS can impact anyone, anywhere regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, geography, climate ..anything.

To STOP HIV infection, 1. Always be careful with blood transmission / transfusion.  Avoid Needle Sharing.  2. Avoid unprotected sex.

HIV transmission is likely to happen. Mother-to-Child During pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

On World AIDS Day, try to avoid misconceptions about AIDS, Host educational workshops, connect with local support groups, engage with awareness campaigns.

In India, organizations like NACO, GFATM, UNAIDS, PFI, HRI, CHDI, VHAI etc are working for AIDS awareness & prevention along with Government.

There is substantial reduction in AIDS-related deaths, however around 2.40 million are still believed to have infection as of 2023.

By 2030, AIDS is targeted to end as a public health threat. A lot of awareness campaigns are being run worldwide to educate people about the same.
