Millions in eastern U.S. face unhealthy air quality conditions from Canada's wildfire smoke


New York City ranked second and Detroit third among major cities for the worst air quality worldwide today -  IQAir, 7 JUNE 2023

More than 400 wildfires are burning in Canada,

– In Quebec, more than 150 forest fires were burning yesterday, with more than 110 considered out of control.

About 98 million people in parts of 18 states from New Hampshire to South Carolina were under air quality alerts this morning for both wildfire smoke and ozone.

Cities issue code red air quality alert

Philadelphia's Dept of PH, Washington, D.C.& NY State’s Dept of Environmental Conservation have issued a code red alert for unhealthy fine particles.

An air monitoring station in the Queens borough finished yesterday with a staggering 24-hour air quality index average of 174.

AQI values =< 100 thought as satisfactory. AQI value > 100, air is unhealthy: at first for certain sensitive groups of people, then for everyone as AQI values get higher.
